Then I realized this machine is designed to handle just about anything you throw at it. If you overload it, it compensates by adjusting times to ensure everything gets cleaned the same as if you did a small load. There are concrete weights to keep it from vibrating in addition to sensing out of balance conditions and redistributing the load automatically. The need for this DOES come up frequently so: Turn the washer OFF. Then WHILE you turn the selector to Cold (Permanant Press) just to the left of OFF, HOLD down the two buttons closest to the cycle selector, eg the two right buttons. They say Spin selection and Delay start. You will then see P:01 displayed after a short pause. Make sure you are holding down those two buttons while you turn the selector to Cold and wait 3 seconds. Once P:01 is there push the left of those two buttons (Spin selection) to get up to P:04. You can then let up on the right button and push just the left button 3 times to get P:04. When the cycle is finished, the machine keeps buzzing at you repeatedly. Overall, I am happy with the machine. It is way way better than the top loading antique we were using!!! It does have a couple of shortcomings that are a frequent nuisance. A digital display reads out a supposed time for completion of whatever wash cycle is in operation, but that readout sometimes does not accurately indicate time remaining. Perhaps the biggest irritation with this washer is that you cannot use partial cycles. For instance, you cannot wash something by hand and then use just use a spin cycle to get rid of excess water. That was a much used feature on my old Whirlpool washers x2. We purchased the matching Nexxt 500Plus dryer at the time we bought the washer. The dryer does have a light in it, which is helpful. It took me a while to realize that when I vacuumed the lint filter space I should just use a brush attachment and clean it from the front of the louvres rather than trying to get a tool into the space that the screen occupies.
